This beautiful American Indian basket is made by the Coushatta Tribe of the Southern Louisiana forests. It is made entirely of pine needles and raffia. The long process begins by gathering the pine needles and preparing them for twisting and shaping. The twisted coils are bound together by drawing raffia around and through the coils by a long needle. Gradually they become a unique shape that you see here.
