This beautiful Two Grey Hills Pattern rug was weaved by Rhonda Begay, Navajo. This rug is 100% wool and has great detail. Some of the best weavings on the Reservation come from the Two Grey Hills area. The style was created after 1914 by two traders, George Bloomfield and Ed Davies at Toadlena and Two Greys Trading Posts. They played a huge roll in helping their local weavers develop their skills and artistry. A Two Grey Hills weaving can by identified by a central diamond motif, and are typically woven of natural, undyed, handspun wool in designs of white, brown, and black. Some weavers do utilize varying amounts of commercially prepared wool yarn. Some of the black yarn may be enhanced with dye to make it uniformly black. Shades of the three basic colors are produced by carding the wool of different sheep together and by carding colors together, such as black and white together to produce shades of gray. The yarn in Two Grey Hills weavings are generally finer which results in a design that is generally crisper. Size: 27” L x 48” W. Picture of the artist holding the rug is included.
